Technical Director – Structures
Do you have proven experience of structural engineering design within residential/care/industrial and commercial sectors? We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Technical Director to join our structural engineering design team.
Coast has a particular focus on residential and care sector projects, with our multi-disciplinary civil and geotechnical engineering teams delivering engineering services from pre planning to post construction.
Working as part of the wider engineering team, the Technical Director will become a critical point of contact for structural design projects working collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team. As the lead for the structural discipline, the role will require engagement with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Leadership and management of the structural team, including leading team growth and diversification into new sectors.
Technical leadership for structural design within our office. This will include having technical oversight of deliverables, responsibility for QA, responsibility for resourcing and managing relationships with existing clients, whilst developing relationships with new clients to enable expansion.
Leading on design in all stages, including feasibility studies, outline designs and detailed designs. Undertaking design work.
Accountability for the delivery of project programmes and budgets.
Line managing junior staff, providing guidance and support including mentoring towards Chartership, Ieng or EngTech.
An emphasis on business development and growth, and client relationship management. We are seeking applicants with a skill set that will complement and enhance our existing team plus someone who has proven consultancy experience.
Qualifications and experience
The right candidate will have the following experience:
A robust level of demonstrable experience in leading and delivering structural designs within the residential/care/industrial and commercial sectors.
Managing the structural team.
Managing client relationships.
Business development – tenders/bids and fee proposals.
MEng (or equivalent) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Knowledge and experience of using software such as Masterseries / Revit is preferred but not essential.
Chartered member of IStructE.
