Templetown

About The Project

A 16.5 hectare residential development site (201 units) for a major UK housebuilder. The land had previously been subject to opencast mining in 3 separate areas which provided a major constraint to development due to the presence of very deep backfill material.  In addition, Coal Authority records confirmed the presence of for mining below the area. The ground investigation included deep cable percussion and rotary boreholes as well as trial pits and window sample boreholes.

Extensive investigation enabled the former quarry high walls to be delineated and the backfill materials to be profiled both chemically and geotechnically. The mining risks from former coal workings was addressed as part of the works.
